Ophthalmic Scrub Nurse/ODP

MedGen has recently been approached by a long-standing client in the Durham area looking to recruit scrub RNs or ODPs who have specific experience in Ophthalmology. There is a real opportunity for ‘longer placements’ on full-time equivalent hours for the right candidate.

The role will be reporting to the Theatre Manager and will be an active part of the multidisciplinary team. You will be assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect. You will also supervise the working of HCAs and support workers and support the training and assessment of student nurses and student ODPs.

What's great about this role?

  • This is a real opportunity to make a difference in everyday people's lives. Your quick thinking and actions will ensure that patients get the right care and attention they need and get them on the road to recovery as quickly as possible.

  • Exposure to a whole host of patients and conditions, keeping your clinical mind sharp and contributing to your ongoing professional development.

  • You'll be expected to work on your own initiative, using your expertise to deliver tailored care plans to the patients, as well as working cross-functionally with other professionals in the department.

As an Ophthalmic Scrub Nurse you will be involved in;

  • Supporting the surgeon anticipating any potential problems in theatre and resolving them

  • Monitoring patients response and reaction to intervention/treatment making clear decisions and taking appropriate action

  • Updating patient health records, electronic patient records and completing handwritten clinical notes

  • Working within the requirements of the code of practice and standard of the Nursing and Midwifery Council

  • Providing feedback to the clinician responsible on the overall effectiveness of treatment/care
